Andrew also completed performances studies at the University of Miami.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrew is equally comfortable as a performer, teacher, and researcher. He has been recognized as a finalist by a multitude of national and international conferences, competitions, and organizations, including the International Trumpet Guild, National Trumpet Competition, the Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition, the Naftzger Young Artist Competition, the Minnesota Orchestra Young Artist Competition, and the U.S. Fulbright Student Program. As a soloist, Andrew is often featured in traditional instrumental mediums, as well as both historic and contemporary performance. Andrew has been involved in the commissioning and premieres of over a dozen new works, including Contraptions by John Cheetham, Zelik by Annika Socolofsky, and Anticitizen One by Paul Poston, and has performed with several of Boston\u2019s top new music ensembles, including Sound Icon and the New England Philharmonic. Andrew also holds the position of Solo Cornet with the New England Brass Band, also serving on the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a teacher, Andrew is one of the most highly sought on the East Coast, maintaining a busy studio of students on all brass instruments based in Boston, MA. Andrew also serves as faculty and brass chamber music coordinator at New England Music Camp in Sidney, ME. Andrew has also served on faculty and as Assistant Department Head of Music at Appel Farm Fine Arts Center near Philadelphia, PA, where he also founded the program\u2019s first full symphony orchestra. Pior do these appointments, Andrew maintained an active studio in the Austin, TX area. Andrew\u2019s students have participated in many of New England\u2019s top honor bands and orchestras, and have participated in prestigious study programs such as the Boston Youth Symphony and Tanglewood. Many&nbsp;have gone on to study at many of the nation\u2019s top music schools and conservatories, including Boston University, New England Conservatory, University of Texas, and Oberlin Conservatory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a researcher, Andrew\u2019s primary field is film music, particularly that of German composers in the 1930\u2019s and 1940\u2019s as they related to the Nazi propaganda program. Andrew has presented extensively on the trumpet\u2019s role in Leni Riefenstahl\u2019s films and their influence on the trumpet music of the period, such as Paul Hindemith and Karl Pil\u00df. Andrew has taught seminars on film music at New England Music Camp and in Boston, MA. Additionally, Andrew has conducted research on the veracity of Torelli\u2019s famous concerto and has performed many of the composer\u2019s works with string ensemble.<div><br><\/div><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Phil Sullivan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.andrewbharms.com\/btw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Headshot-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31\" width=\"252\" height=\"378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.andrewbharms.com\/btw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Headshot-1.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.andrewbharms.com\/btw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Headshot-1-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.andrewbharms.com\/btw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Headshot-1-120x180.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 252px) 100vw, 252px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently based in&nbsp;Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Phil Sullivan is a trumpet pedagogue and recitalist from the San Francisco Bay Area in California. He has taken performing, conducting, and teaching engagements in California, New York, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, North Carolina and internationally in Italy.&nbsp;&nbsp;Equally at home as a soloist, orchestral,&nbsp;and chamber musician, Phil has performed in a wide variety of styles and venues including Carnegie Hall as principal trumpet, and The Isabella Stuart and the Children\u2019s Museums in Boston as a chamber musician and soloist respectively.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 2007 to 2010 he was the Trumpet Studio Coordinator at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
